FAQ's

I'm a complete beginner, can i still come to classes?

Thai boxing is for EVERYONE. Young/old/experienced/inexperienced, whether you've been to Thailand and trained before or not, TSP is a welcoming place for everyone and you'll be taken in with open arms, no matter what.

We definitely recommend a couple of private sessions to just show you the basics first but even if you can't make it to any privates, you'll still be shown the ropes in the classes albeit  will take longer to show you the basics as Junior will have to pass back and forth between you (and whoever else is brand new to it) and the rest of the class doing whatever work they've been given.

Am I too old to start thai boxing?

Bottom line-NO!. You can start Thai boxing at any time. In Thailand a lot of people start before they're even 10. Some even 5! Our main instructor didn't start until he was 24 and had never even heard of Thai boxing before heading to Thailand and finding out about it for the first time.

Will i just be beaten up?

No, not at all. You only start sparring (play fighting) when you feel ready and not up until that point. On top of that, when we spar at TSP, it *is* only playing, one of the main things we teach is how to let go or your ego and make sparring about learning, not winning. You'll hear Junior, our main instructor say many a time, "what are you winning? You're paying to be here, you want to pay to be concussed?".

How hard are the sessions and what are they like?

Yes we all train together but the classes are designed to push you boundaries, not leave you unable to walk. If you have injuries or anything, let us know and we can always work around them.

A regular session involves skipping, conditioning (push ups etc), stretching, padwork (practicing certain combinations and moves) and a few group exercises together.

What gear do i need?

All you need are some shorts, a shirt and a towel.  You can rent the gym's gloves/shin guards for £1 a session but if you have the full membership, you can use them for free.

Will i be welcome at the gym?

Will i be welcome at the gym?

Muay Thai is for EVERYONE. There's not many classes where you'll find such a rag tag bunch of people from every walk of life, training and laughing together. Men/women/young/old/rich/poor/casual fitness enthusiasts/professional athletes all in one room practicing and learning together. Absolutely everyone is welcome.
